Chevrolet 216 Inline 6 Cylinder Engine

The Chevy 216 inline 6 cylinder was first produced in 1937 and originally had 85 horsepower. The 216 I6 was used in both cars and trucks at the time due to the fact that it was the only engine that Chevy produced until 1941. In 1941 the horsepower was pumped up to 90 thanks to new redesigned cylinder heads and the 235 inline six was introduced which was just a larger version of the 216. By 1949 the compression was increased for the 216 which gave it an extra 2 horsepower where the engine would stay until it was phased out in the end of 1952. These engines used a internal lubrication system that worked like a nozzle in the sense that it would spray oil up from the oil pan onto the connecting rods where the oil would then be delivered to the engine bearings.
